Take one or more interesting objects and draw them with contour line on a sheet of quality paper 22 x 30" or bigger. Play with the layering of these objects- drawing and redrawing them on top of one another and composing them on the space of the page. Use whatever media you'd like.
Things to consider:
-line quality (thick/thin, light/dark)
-drawing pace (fast lines vs slow lines)
-organic objects vs geometric
-density of layered lines
-levels of detail (linear tonality)
-object scale
-levels of finish (maybe some objects aren't completed and some have lots of detail)
-overall emphasis in composition
The resulting image could be an abstract cluster of imagery that you have to look closely to discover what these objects are.
Listed are some artists that use a layering of contour lines in their drawings.
